Biography
Florina Petrescu is a Romanian-born violinist, performer, educator, and creative artist based in Michigan, USA. She began studying violin at the age of seven and continued her musical training at the prestigious “Dinu Lipatti” Music High School in Bucharest before earning both a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance and a Master’s Degree in Chamber Music Performance from the National University of Music Bucharest.
Following graduation, Florina joined the Sibiu State Philharmonic in Transylvania, Romania, where she performed for five years before relocating to the United States in 2014. Rumors involving vampires remain unconfirmed.
Since moving to Michigan, Florina has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles including Detroit Opera, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Flint Symphony Orchestra, Saginaw Symphony Orchestra, Oakland Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Symphony, International Symphony Orchestra, and others. In 2017, she became Principal Second Violin of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra.
Her international performance career includes tours throughout Austria, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and the Netherlands, collaborating with ensembles such as Vox Opera, Sibiu State Philharmonic, and The Musical Theater “Nae Leonard.”
Beyond classical performance, Florina has explored crossover genres including rock and Irish folk music. Her Romanian rock band, Tagma, received both First and Second Prize at the nationally recognized Posada Rock Festival, where she contributed as violinist, lyricist, and arranger.
Alongside performance and teaching, Florina is the founder and creator behind the YouTube channel “Florina Petrescu,” where she is building a growing online presence through cinematic violin storytelling and creative digital content. Through YouTube and visual media, she combines music, emotion, atmosphere, and human experience into immersive artistic experiences designed to connect far beyond the concert hall.
Florina is also the founder of Florys Violin Studio, where she teaches violin students of various ages and levels, combining technical development with musical expression, discipline, and performance confidence. She has additionally served as a Teaching Artist for the Kennedy Center Partners in Education program in Michigan.
